TROUBLE SHOOTING

1.Connecting.
Make sure that your modem is switched and that your computer is communicating with it, click on 'Start' go to 'Settings' and then 'Control Panel'. Double click on the 'Modems' icon. When the window appears click on 'Diagnostics' and select the COM port associated with your modem then click on the 'More Info' button. If a blank window appears or a 'Could not open port' message appears then you need to verify that no other software is running which could be using this COM port or re-install your modem, if this does not help contact your hardware supplier or system administrator.

2. If your modem dials but cannot establish or maintain a connection, check to ensure that the correct client and protocols are installed within 'Network' properties. From control panel double click on the 'Network' icon. This will display a list of installed devices. You must have the following 3 within your list:
1.Dial up adapter
2.Client for Microsoft Network
3.TCP/IP
If any of the above are not present click on 'add' button and install them to your machine.

3. E-mail
Email problems are usually associated with incorrect server details in the account details of your email checking software (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express)

Email problems can also occur if your software or connection is interrupted whist it is receiving email. If this occurs a 'POP Lock'Error can be reported on subsequent email verification. To cure this you need to close your email software and log back on after 30 minutes. This will usually free the lock and allow emails through.
